FAQ
What is Dango?
Dango is a dango or Japanese dumpling. A dango is a sort of snack made out of mochi (pounded sweet rice) and flavored with things like soy sauce, cherry blossom, sugar or an (red bean).
Aren’t dangos spherical?
Most dangos that you see on tv or in manga, etc. are, in fact, little spheres usually on a wooden skewer, but dangos can be made in other shapes. Dango from the comic is actually modeled after a homemade dango that a friend of mine made me. This dango was more flat and kind of doughy.
Isn’t Dango a bit big for a dango?
Yes. Dango is palm sized in his original form, though his size does vary depending on how much or how little he has eaten or my various whims. Palm sized is his default size, however. He is about the same size and shape as a daifuku but dango is a much cooler word. ^^ heh heh. ^_^
Do you like dangos?
… No. ^^; Oddly enough. I’m really not that fond of them. I do like daifuku, though, particularly Yuki Ichigo Daifuku.
What is inside of Dango?
No one knows… Oooo-weeee-oooo…. Spooky, no?
Does Dango actually digest anything?
The answer remains to be seen… or as I often answer stuff like this, it depends on my mood.
What does Dango taste like?
I don’t remember anymore… o_o Like dough, sort of, depending on what’s inside him, but he also has a strange, soft and lifelike consistency. Like really smooth um… 9_9; testicles… er… things…?….
Why does Dango float?
Because for all of 30 seconds he was a cloud and then I wrote a caption that said he floated and voila! Floating dango. I am like unto a god. For I hath created Dango and given him wings that he might soar to the heavens and… eat… the… ….. angels…. o_o;
How did you come up with Love the Dango?
One day I decided that I wanted to get back to drawing things in an animated style and so I drew a little T-Rex on a post-it note. The T-Rex was very angry so I decided to draw him being angry at something and I drew a cute little cloud. I decided to change it into a dango because that was slightly more absurd and then I wrote a caption for it that I thought was equally absurd. I thought it would be interesting if the dango was the one to eat the T-Rex instead of the other way around and floating dango was born!
Why do some of the earlier strips say “Dango!” ?
That used to be the strip’s name. When I submitted it Zuda comics and it got in they asked me to change the name as there was already a comic named “Dango”. I changed the name to “Love the Dango” and that was that. Some of the strips I was too lazy to change. ^^;
Have you seen Clan Ed?
No. I had never heard of Dango Daikazoku until after I had already been drawing and writing dango. I try not to go looking for other dango things because I don’t want to be influenced by them.
Can I be in a Dango strip?
I dunno. I wouldn’t plan on it. I do them when I feel like it. I usually have to know you for a while before I put you in a strip and the current ones have an actual storyline so there is very little place for cameos in them. Still, it may happen. You never can tell what will set me off. ^_^
Would you do a trade with my comic?
Probably only if I actually know you and read your comic.
Dango is great, but when are you going to work on your other comics?
Que? o_o What other comics? I am sorry. I do not understand…
I’m not entirely sure. I have a ton of them I want to work on and I keep getting more ideas. By the time I’m done writing one I’ve already got 4 others I’m thinking about. I should probably just get back to work on them. When I do go back to them, Cat’s Dance will be the priority.
What are Spam Dangos?
Well, when the dango shows up in glasses and ranting about something or taking its cat to the vet… it’s not the dango… it’s me. I’m trying to make them a little more recognizable.
